Free handyman invoice template for small jobs
A handyman invoice turns a list of small tasks into a total the client can follow: hours at your rate or a flat price per task, a minimum charge for short visits, and materials listed with any markup shown. Many handymen set a one or two hour minimum per visit and mark materials up 10 to 25 percent to cover buying and hauling them. How to use this template
- Choose hourly or per task for each line. Repeatable jobs like faucet swaps and door adjustments price well per task. Open-ended work like drywall repair prices better by the hour. Label each line so the client can tell which is which.
- Print the minimum where it will be read. A one or two hour minimum covers the drive, setup, and parts run on a fifteen minute job. Put it on the quote, the booking confirmation, and the invoice terms.
- Show materials with the markup. List cost plus markup, or one price per item. Hiding materials inside labor makes your hourly rate look high; a visible 15 percent reads as fair pay for buying and hauling the parts.
- Check the total against your license limit. If you work under a minor work exemption, add up labor and materials before the visit, not after. In California the exemption covers only jobs under $1,000 for labor and materials combined, and any job needing a building permit falls outside it at any price.
- End with the next list. Close the invoice with the tasks the client mentioned but did not book. It is the cheapest way to fill next month's schedule.

Both are common. Per task pricing suits repeatable work where you know the time, like hanging a door or swapping a faucet, and clients like knowing the price up front. Hourly suits open-ended repairs. Many handymen quote per task and fall back to hourly when the scope is unclear.
What is a typical handyman minimum charge?
Many handymen set a minimum of one to two hours of labor per visit, or a flat minimum of roughly $100 to $200 depending on the market. It covers drive time and setup on jobs that take minutes. State it when the client books and again on the invoice.
How much should a handyman mark up materials?
10 to 25 percent over cost is a common range, covering the time spent shopping, the drive, and returns. Some handymen skip the markup and bill shopping time by the hour instead. Either way, show it so the client sees what they are paying for.
Does a handyman need a license?
